My writing is published by Redbook, Chicago Parent, Make It Better, Going Places and Special Parent magazines as well as Family Vacation Critic, Journal & Topics newspapers, on WTMX Moms in the Mix and Illinois Farm Families. I am a proud winner of a 2015 national Parenting Media Association award for my service feature, Secrets for Success. My story, Time Out for Better Time In, was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Time to Thrive in May 2015. I am also a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the Midwest Travel Writers Association.
My work focuses are relationships, travel and parenting, with particular interests in gratitude, attitude and adventure. As an Illinois Farm Families City Mom, I enjoyed learning first-hand how the food we eat is produced. Please click here to read my Illinois Farm Families City Mom Blog.
As a kid, I was mad at the world for having an absent father and not receiving the love I thought I deserved. However, as I matured, I realized it was up to me to build the life I wanted to lead. It has been a bumpy road from bitter child to happy parent, as I recover from pessimism and seek my own fulfillment, but everyday I try to raise my children, as well as myself, with optimism and understanding.
In my essays and articles, I share insights from a life of facing challenges head on and focusing on what I want front and center — family, love, joy, and adventure. I write to share my learning with others, in an effort to replace my old negative attitude with new gratitude, and spread more positive energy.
I live in Chicago with my husband, who has been my other half for half my life, our sweet, creative son and boisterous, bubbly daughter. When I’m not laughing with family, reading or writing, I enjoy traveling, experiencing new adventures, cooking and exercising with friends. I’ll admit to a fear of boredom as well as a fear of heights, although I’d love to try trapeze school one day. Embracing challenges has made me a stronger person.
